Frequently Asked Questions

How do I prepare my vehicle?

Click here for information on how to prepare your vehicle for shipment.

How much does it cost to ship a car, truck or SUV?

That is a good question and many variables make up your price. Things like the size of your car, if it is operable, the distance and the season all play an important role in your price.

To find out a quick budgetary price on shipping your vehicle, try our AutoShipments.com Instant Quote™ located on the left of this page.

How long does it take to ship a car?

As a general rule, shipping across the country should take anywhere from 10-14 days and from North to South is around 5-7 days after pickup. Sometimes it can be faster on smaller carriers but you should always get an estimate on time from the carrier prior to signing the contract.

Should I get multiple quotes?

Like anything else you buy, you should receive multiple quotes to ensure you are receiving a fair deal. Remember the cheapest price is many times not the best option. These companies may be low balling your quote and will abandon the customer service part of shipping your vehicle. In the vehicle relocation industry, we have found you definitely get what you pay for so be careful of the cheapest price when deciding on the company to ship your car, truck or SUV.

What sort of questions should I ask a company prior to shipping my car?

You should first find out if you are dealing with a licensed and bonded company. Vehicle transport companies are licensed and regulated by the US Department of Transportation (DOT). Also, find out how long the company has been in business. Companies should have a fairly long history of good service and a high level of customer service and support each time you call or email.

Broker vs. Owner/Operator

A broker is a company that facilities the shipping process for the customer and the company or person that is actually driving the car to the destination. Brokers play a significant role in the car shipping process because they many times have the service and support side of car shipping down to a science. They are typically much more effective with customer service and can be cost effective as well. Many times brokers prices are the same or less than owners/operators because they have relationships with a full network of shippers.

It is important you make sure your brokers carriers the necessary licenses and you they have a good standing in the car shipping industry prior to signing a contract.

How do I pay for shipping my vehicle?

This all depends on the company you hire for the job. You should ask upfront the pay terms and make sure you are comfortable with them prior to signing a contract. Many times you can pay upfront with a credit card, at time of delivery with a check, or by giving a deposit for part of the shipment and then paying the balance upon delivery.

What if a company gives me bad service?

We highly recommend you come back to our site and rate and give an honest review of the carriers service. These reviews are one way to praise great service and fight back against bad service. The carriers that receive repeated complaints will be moved to our shipper black list and we will no longer allow them to promote our banners at their site.
